Both cardiovascular and strength (resistance) training are important for health and weight loss. Learn about them in this video.
Among other benefits, cardio training:
1) Improves heart health and helps prevent heart disease
2) Improves brain function and thinking
3) Improves sleep
4) Aids in weight loss
Among other benefits, strength training:
1) Burns fat
2) Builds muscle
3) Changes body composition
4) Reduces injuries
5) Builds mental and emotional strength
Current guidelines recommend:
1) Cardio: 150 - 300 minutes per week
2) Resistance: 20 minutes two or three times per week
If you're just getting started with exercise, that sounds like a lot, and it is. Start with less and work up to these guidelines.
The good news is that you will get a lot of benefit even from less exercise as you work up to higher levels.
